Dear Amazon EC2 Customer,

We are excited to announce the launch of a fourth Availability Zone in our US East Region. Starting today, you can use Amazon EC2 instances in Availability Zone us-east-1d. All existing EC2 features such as Amazon EC2 running Microsoft Windows, EBS, AMIs, and Elastic IPs will work just like in any other zone.

Availability Zones are distinct locations that are designed to be insulated from failures in other zones. This allows you to protect your applications from possible failures in a single location. Availability Zones also provide inexpensive, low latency network connectivity to other Availability Zones in the same Region.
