The SecureSpan Gateway AMI from Layer 7 Technologies acts as a virtual Policy Enforcement Point (vPEP) for controlling how applications delivered as Web services get accessed and consumed. Using the SecureSpan Gateway AMI, application-level policies are enforced on a service and operation level, allowing organizations to implement fine-grained access control, data security and availability policies without code. This makes Amazon EC2 applications look, feel and operate like extended parts of their secure enterprise.

- You must either create an SSH key/certificate pair on the EC2 console and allow the download of the private key to your workstation, or create a
key/certificate pair locally and upload the certificate to the EC2 console
- Select the SecureSpan Gateway AMI appliance from the Public Images section of Amazon
- Using a Reserved image is optional and has specific features and capabilities beyond the standard image - Refer to Amazon documentation for
details
- Select the number of instances
- Select the above created firewall group
- Assign the above-mentioned SSH public certificate for the image
- Note that boot time is usually less than 2 minutes, but can be as long as 5 minutes. This is expected behavior in EC2 and in no way impacts the
performance of the system when running.
- Start the image
- Post boot: Optionally obtain and assign an elastic IP to your image
- Make note of either the elastic IP or the automatically assigned IP address.
Once the image boot process has completed, the Gateway AMI can be configured (see below)
