About the software:
The DB2 Express AMI provides Amazon EC2 users with a fully configured and deployment-ready solution for all their database needs. DB2 supports key development platforms including C/C++, Java, .Net, PHP, Ruby on Rails, Python, etc., and is well suited for a variety of Web, Web 2.0, transactional, analytical, ERP, and other business applications.
This particular AMI incorporates Fix Pack 1.
It is available on 32-bit 2.6.16 level-based enterprise Linux OS and provides an end-to-end automation to get the AMI initially set up according to user’s requirements including:
- Root password setup
- IDS instances and passwords setup
- Optional (recommended)
Elastic Block Storage (EBS) setup for persistent data storage
When a DB2 Express 9.7 AMI instance is started for the very first time, a sequence of interactive configuration screens will help the user setup their DB2 environment in a few quick steps:
- Pre-installed OS/software license agreements screen
- Amazon Web Services configuration module
- EBS storage configuration module
- DB2 system configuration module
- DB2 users configuration module
A description of each interactive step and additional information about how to re-package the DB2 Express 9.7 AMI with an ISV (Independent Software Vendor) application can be found in the accompanying documentation.

The DB2 Express 9.7 32-bit AMI, based on a 2.6.16.60 Linux kernel level, is suitable for “Small” (m1.small) and “High-CPU Medium” (c1.medium) Instance types.
