MuleSoft Cloudcat™ is enterprise Tomcat in the cloud – a fully supported virtual image (EC2 AMI) that allows developers and QA to build and test web applications easily in the cloud. Cloudcat includes Apache Tomcat ready-to-use and pre-configured with Ubuntu Linux and MySQL (available for both 32-bit and 64-bit CPUs). Using Cloudcat, developers and QA can rapidly deploy and test their web applications, and IT operations professionals can leverage on-demand infrastructure that they can start up during peak demand times or as a cheaper alternative to deploying Tomcat on a physical server in their own data center.

Apache Tomcat is the world’s most widely used application server, with over 1 million downloads per month and over 70% penetration in the enterprise datacenter. Apache Tomcat has grown in popularity with application developers due to its lightweight simplicity, providing a powerful application platform with none of the cost or complexity of legacy JEE platforms.
As organizations start to use cloud platforms as a way to expand their data center capacity, they are moving some of their dev/test and select production workloads to the cloud environment. Apache Tomcat is ideally suited for the elastic nature of the cloud, as it does not carry the heavy infrastructure needs often required by legacy Java EE application servers.
Until now there have been no reliable and supported virtual images of Tomcat available on the cloud for use by organizations. Using Apache Tomcat in the cloud has required manual installation and configuration of Tomcat before installing other required software. MuleSoft has solved that problem with Cloudcat, a virtual image that contains the latest version of Apache Tomcat (6.0.20) with MySQL running on an Ubuntu Linux distribution. Cloudcat is the cloud runtime for your web applications, making accessible the power of cloud to modern web applications.
As with any AMI, Cloudcat can be monitored from the Amazon AWS console. If you need more than basic monitoring, check out Tcat Server from MuleSoft. In addition to basic Apache Tomcat monitoring, Tcat Server's intuitive graphical console allows you to view detailed diagnostic data, perform remote configuration management, create server groups and server profiles, and provision/de-provision your web applications to a Cloudcat EC2 instance from Tcat Server.
