Okay, I'm still glowing from the sheer coolness of bringing virtual server online from my Windows machine at home. This video tutorial is a must first stop for getting aquainted with how EC2 works. Now I can't wait to play some more!

Simply Awesome.., Feb 23, 2007 5:52 PM

This tutorial was simply awesome... I am running several EC2 instances myself. I also was getting several emails on how I was using EC2. Well, I have republished this tutorial on my website and I believ it's helping a lot of folks from my community not only use it, but also learn a lot about "webservices". Thank you for this video.. it was simply awesome... If somone cannot understand what EC2 is, and learn how to use this after watching this preso. that person should really think about changing careers.... (just kidding)
the republished link for the tutorial is : http://konkan.tv/view_video.php?viewkey=67e1c2d933d311b08178

Excellent, Mar 11, 2007 1:47 AM

I have been thinking about testing the EC2 service for a while. This video made it real easy for me to test out the service. I was up and running without any problems in about 40 minutes. Some additional things that might be useful for users like me:
how do you copy files onto the newly created AMI Images and how do you save your image and relaunch it.
I am sure that these are covered in the technical documentation but a video like this will make it simpler ;-)

Good place to start - watch out - slightly out of date, Jun 27, 2007 3:25 PM
Reviewer: H. M. Fuecks
Good starting point but be warned things have changed slightly since the tutorial was made.
In the batch file, the name of the environment variable for the private key file is now EC2_PRIVATE_KEY not just EC2_PRIVATE
Also the instance that Mike starts in the demo seems to have changed and is now no longer running Apache of an SSHD - couldn't connect to it but tried again with another instance claiming to be a start LAMP image and it worked fine.

Very Useful, Jun 28, 2007 4:45 PM

This is an excellent tutorial. Stopping and starting it while I replicated the command line actions was extremely useful in getting me to understand ec2 and how to interact with it. The tools explained will be very useful in managing instances -- even when I am not around to do so!

Getting errors - out of date video?, Nov 17, 2007 12:26 PM
Reviewer: positivemo
At the point in the video when the system is first being tested (ec2-describe-images -x all), I'm getting the following error:
Client.AuthFailure: AWS was not able to validate the provided access credentials
I've tried this a few times (on Windows Vista, Java 1.5.0_12-b14) with the same results.
I wonder if the fact that the video is out of sync with the web site (which in and of itself is not a big deal since the web site is evolving) is symptomatic of the video being out of date with the technology as well...?
Any ideas anyone? Thanks!
