Firefox Organizer for Amazon S3 and Amazon CloudFront (S3Fox)
 |
S3Fox helps you organize, manage, and store your files on Amazon S3 and distribute them through CloudFront. It's integrated into Firefox, which makes it easy to install and work with Amazon S3 buckets and objects.

"SignatureDoesNotMatch: The request signature we calculated does notmatch the signature you provided. Check your key and signing method"
I get the same error in 0.4.5 when I try to synchronize folders. Using Mozilla/5.0.

In your sync folder settings, make sure your folder slashes are correct according to your OS and to S3.
eg. i had my s3 folder path as \folder\folder and it should have been /folder/folder.

Please make sure your paths are absolute. Make sure they begin with a "/" and ends with a "/" This applies to both Local and Remote files.

Thanks. Worked after adding "/" before and after the directory paths.

A proof that works, Jul 3, 2007 10:55 AM
Reviewer: Hans-Juergen Philippi
One may argue about the fact that an S3 file handling tool requires a web browser as host application. However, the whole thing works pretty well. There's some usability fine tuning needed in my eyes, this Firefox add-on still appears a bit like a proof-of-concept. But as long as there's no better alternative around, it can be highly recommended to all FF/S3 users!

keys didn't work, Oct 16, 2007 10:17 AM
Reviewer: David Orchard
I didn't get past step 1. My access key and secret access key didn't work in the plugin. Now I wasn't sure whether the "account name" was a factor in calculations or just a local name for the plug in. I tried my account id, amazon.com user name, and bucket name from s3 as account name in the plugin and none of them worked.

Some issues with Linux/Firefox combination, Dec 3, 2007 4:02 PM
Reviewer: kenpc
---Tools/S3 Organizer dropdown is functional with Firefox 2.0.0.4 (using Kubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn)
However, The handy little S3Fox button in lower corner of webpage crashes Firefox.
Transfers do occur although some transfers and some other attempts to startup the S3 organizer result in a error box containing
Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520006
(NS_ERROR_FILE_TARGET_DOES_NOT_EXIST)[nslocalFile.lastModifiedTime]" nsresult:
"0x80520006 (NS_ERROR_FILE_TARGET_DOES_NOT_EXIST)"
---On a different computer: Both dropdown and S3Fox popup buttons appear to work in Firefox version
1.5.0.12 (using Fedora Core 6) But actually no connection to the S3 buckets can be made. Nothing shows up in the right-side panel (even when accurate bucket-names and keys are provided).

Limited stability and usefulness, May 2, 2008 9:32 AM
Reviewer: kermujian
Browses folders and creates buckets. Uploaded 1000 files at 30bytes each and 997 succeeded. Uploaded a 20 MB file successfully. Failed twice on 179 MB file.
Hung Firefox (2.0.0.14) three times in three attempts to delete single or groups of files.
I'll just use it as a browser.

Kills my browser, Jul 1, 2008 12:13 PM
Reviewer: jdogsailing
I installed the organizer and it worked for a while. After the recent upgrade; however, it now throws an exception every time it opens and subsequently hangs my browser. I have to force quit it to get out. I used to think it was useful, now I think its a crock.

Faster simplier results with Undesigned S3 Php Object, Sep 1, 2008 6:07 PM
Reviewer: jellytypo
Was very disapointed with the S3 Fox 0.4.1 update. Because I could no longer remove buckets, I found myself in the frying pan and I sought out another alternative. Undesigned's PHP S3 class was easy to use and totally solved my problem (too many buckets). Best of all no dependencies beyond php 5.2.

crashes, Oct 30, 2008 6:38 PM
Reviewer: pretheory
Just keeps throwing errors about my account settings, which might be wrong, but I can't get to the point to edit and fix them because it crashes my entire FF every time I click anything in S3Fox, it sounds like it would be awesome if it worked.

Works but a little glitchy, Nov 13, 2008 8:30 AM
Reviewer: yousport
I'm not sure what all these other people are having trouble with. As long as you are capable of actually correctly entering your aws access key and the secret key for the account it should connect just fine. Worked on my first try. I noticed sometimes it lists a bucket as just prepended with the name instead of in a folder so the behavior is a little wacky but this is in beta/alpha it would seem so that shouldn't be surprising.

CloudFront Support ROCKS!!! 5 Stars!!!, Nov 22, 2008 5:52 PM
Reviewer: Edward Goldberg
The new CloudFront support works for me.
Right out of the box I had my new CDN based files working on my sites. This is the CDN for the rest of us.
Now I can have files from AWS served at the cost of the bandwidth when I am not in need of any back-end support.
The only tool I need is FireFox and S3Fox to support my new site.
Great product, good work, right on time for me needs.

It works but doens't play well with others, Jan 7, 2010 7:41 AM
Reviewer: kacee914
The S3 organiser work under my Firefox in Ubuntu Linux. The look and feel is good. I tried some simple file operations, it worked.
However S3Fox could not read directories (and files) created with JetS3t cockpit and s3fs (mount tool in Linux). And if I want to access a directory created with S3Fox is shown a folder as a file, like: test_$folder$
Is S3Fox using own storage mechanisms?
