Here to hoping.

People: please mention the location if S3 starts working for you because we are still waiting for the service to be restored.
thanks

Back up as of 14:53 UTC. Long outage but was good to get an acknowledgement that work on it had begun just 11 minutes after reporting it at 5am local time.

All my buckets are up again too -- a bit sluggish at first, but at full speed now.
Total downtime about 3 hours... well below 99.9% SLA.

Still getting 503s to S3 from my EC2 instances, which makes it still effectively down for us.

Working now from Spain. What really annoys me is the lack of an official explanation from Amazon (as usual).

Back up here in Chicago and my EC2 instances wget reports 200 OK status codes so it appears all is well. My running website walkjogrun.net lives on EC2 and stores images, css, js and xml files at S3 so this pulled my site down for three hours. With 3000 visitors a day from around the world it's a pretty good barometer as to which of the services are up and running.

(edited -- just saw the official "up" posting -- thanks Amazon!)
A health monitor would be useful -- something to show what amazon thinks the status of the services are and to post official information. Maybe even proactive alerts or something I could tie our other infrastructure notifications into so I could be proactive in alerting our downstream affected users.

Seems to have deteriorated again a little, though not a high error rate, e.g. just a moment ago:
<Error><Code>InternalError<
/Code><Message>We encountered an internal error. Please try again.</Message><RequestId>457FB1977EF9D615</RequestId><HostId>X2JRruE03z5/d0yo2nTWo8kq904c3BtIxWreAcwdclv5oRVo2MeM5rhOUqMQMokI</HostId>
</Error>---> System.Net.WebException: The remote server returned an error:(500) Internal Server Error.
