Several users have contacted us whether they can use SearchBlox to index multiple websites on the internet to build their own vertical search engine. Yes, SearchBlox can be used to build your own vertical search and you can insert paid advertising into the search results by editing the .xsl file within the /opt/searchblox/webapps/searchblox/stylesheets folder.
SearchBlox has implemented a vertical search for green websites -

I have a few question. I like the design of SearchBlox.
Questions:
1. How redundant is the system?
2. Can S3 be integrated easily info SearchBlox?
3. Whats the default document format that we can serve via SearchBlox?
4. What about scalability and failover safety ?
Regards
Hareem.

Response to your questions:
1. How redundant is the system?
- SearchBlox has the builtin feature for replication and redundancy. You can bring up another instance and make it mirror the master server in minutes. You can bring many instances and add them to a load balancing pool if need. Please see the details on the Replication feature. -

2. Can S3 be integrated easily info SearchBlox?
- Yes, all of the required files for the application sit within the folder /searchblox folder. You can back that folder up periodically. You can also mount that folder from an external storage like S3 if possible. You can restore the application from a backup version of that folder.
3. Whats the default document format that we can serve via SearchBlox?
- Even though the format we serve up is HTML, the search results are available as xml which ca e transformed into whatever format you need.
SearchBlox can index HTML, Word, Powerpoint, Excel, RTF, Text and PDF files.
4. What about scalability and failover safety ?
- Again please see our Replication feature.

You can scale both horizontally and vertically with SearchBlox.
