Is there something going on with s3 over the past day or so? Puts and retrievals have been going slower recently, and today they're almost intolerably slow. This needs to be fixed ASAP.

I confirm the same for us @ AdaptiveBlue.
Can we get someone from Amazon to comment on this and give us an estimated time for the fix?
Thanks,
Alex

agreed. this has happened in the past and has been fixed but it makes me a little wary of S3 in general. this shouldn't happen at all and if it is basic maintenance, they should be announcing it well ahead of time...

I'm basing my final year project around Amazon S3..One bad day with S3 (i.e., the day I'm giving my demonstration, which is wroth most of the marks), and I could easily do poorly in my project.
Is it a common occurence that S3 just 'stops working'?
# Reliable: Store data durably, with 99.99% availability. There can be no single points of failure. All failures must be tolerated or repaired by the system without any downtime.
# Fast: Amazon S3 must be fast enough to support high-performance applications. Server-side latency must be insignificant relative to Internet latency. Any performance bottlenecks can be fixed by simply adding nodes to the system.
Is that actually the case?
Oh, on a side note: A friend of mine worked in Amazon located in Seattle, and he said, all that "
It gives any developer access to the same highlyscalable, reliable, fast, inexpensive data storage infrastructure
thatAmazon uses to run its own global network of web sites"
stuff is a load of bull. He worked pretty closey with core development teams too.
Regards,
Cormac

I got a reply from amazon that they're looking into it and will get back to me shortly. I'll let you know what I hear.
I can understand occasional problems with ec2, since that's in beta. But s3 isn't. We've switched to using s3 in production and we have millions of files on their servers now. We're paying a LOT of money for this service and need it to be stable and reliable. I'm not looking forward to moving everything off s3 to something else, but if it's not reliable, that's what we'll need to do.

Can we get an update? It's been several hours. An estimate would be great.

I've got the problem too.
In some cases 80% of of the images on my pages are not loading.
5 minutes later it's ok, then it is down again, etc...

I am becoming increasingly aggrevated by this.
Yesterday S3 was horridly slow and now today it is randomly failing to load images for my site.
We are using it for a production business site with many customers whose pages are failing to display properly now.
This needs to be fixed!
