To use SQL on windows, you will have to start with one of the public sql images and the sql license cost is included in the cost of running those images.

Thanks,
Manish

http://aws.amazon.com/windows covers a lot of the Windows specific questions.  There are also some licensing questions covered in the FAQ section at: http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/faqs/.
Thanks,
Dave

In the AWS windows link, it says both
1) "....Amazon EC2 also now supports the SQL Server® Express and SQL Server Standard databases ......"
and
2) "... We offer Amazon EC2 with two versions of Microsoft SQL Server: Express and Standard ."

Why am I higlighting the differences  ? - well because SQL Server standard as bought from Microsoft includes SSAS.

What no-one at AWS seems able to confirm is whether the AWS SQL Standard offering is  meant to be simply the database side (implied by first statement) or is meant to include all of SQL Server components (e.g. SSAS)  (as implied by second statement).

Some clarity would be welcome and if it is meant to be second statement, then can someone please tell me how to get Business Intelligence Dev Studio on there....

Unfortunately, we currently do not offer Business Intelligence Dev Studio as part of our Amazon EC2 running Windows with SQL Server offering.  However, I will add your request as we review other future features to add to the offering.
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Manish,

Is the operating system license cost included in the running cost?

Many thanks,

Chris

Yes, the cost of running the instance includes the Windows license cost (and SQL Server, if installed).
