Unresponsive EC2 instance

We're having trouble connecting to one of our EC2 instances, and can't seem to ping, ssh, or otherwise connect to it.  We've tried rebooting the instance to no avail.  Before we terminate the instance and launch a new one, I'm wondering if there's any way we can figure out if this machine is in a temporary horked state or if it's recoverable?

Help from anyone in AWS land?

The instance id is i-02ee516b. Message was edited by: pjanakiraman

We have had the exact thing happen to us to! our instance id is i-9c1cb8f5 We need our server back asap!

Btw, we are on 1c, is everyone else who is having this problem on 1c as well? We have other instances on 1c that are fine... but when we tried to start another one on 1c it failed, finally got another one booted on 1d.

Same issue here, only it's multiple instances that are unavailable.  I have attempted to restart one of them (shut down current, detach ebs volume, start new one) but doesn't want to work.

Strange thing is, if I check my instance status, the one that is shutting down sometimes shows as running, and sometimes shows as shutting down.

Update:  The one I attempted to start now shows as terminated...

Same here, our Instance Id i-dcc864b5 became suddenly unresponsive at 6:00PM PST today and we can't get a route to it from anywhere. Status shows as "running".

We are working to restore connectivity to affected instances. Please refer to the Service Health Dashboard for further updates,

Any idea what the heck is going on?
the first instances internal DNS has changed.
Some word from Amazon would at least ease my fears.

Thanks

Same here, the instance id is i-cd66cba4 in us-east-1a zone. It's not responding to web request and ssh. The status is showing as running and it looks like there is a network issue to the instance.

According to the status ( http://status.aws.amazon.com/) there is an outtage in an availability zone.

They did not mention the zone, but we have an instance in

US-EAST-1B

and it is not-responsive.

Is everyone else's non-responsive instances also in us-east-1b?

All of mine that are not responsive are actually in us-east-1a.

We have 3 instances in US-EAST-1B. Two instances are up and one is down.

Same problem here: i-90109ef9

Have tried ec2-reboot-instances, but nothing happens and the state never chances from "running".

Luckily for now, it appears of our 60+ instances, this is the only one affected.

Same here. We have several instances in us-east-1b. All are fine except we lost one with the same issues as others here are reporting.

According to the dashboard it sounds like a power issue is preventing connectivity.  Do you think the instances will be restored as they were once the connectivity issue is resolved or do you think the instances will have to be destroyed?

All of our instances are in US-EAST-1C

If it's a localized power issue, why is it affecting different zones?

A bit concerned right now.
